November 30th, 2012 –
I woke up yesterday to chaotic beauty…
The skies were overcast, the temperature was cool with a hint of breeze & it was RAINING!! I thought to myself …..What an awesome day for Rockstache 2012!! But as I moved my gaze from the skies to the ground, the chaos intensified – water clogged streets & traffic jams trailing for miles. I wasnt sure how this day was going to turn out. In my mind, I was preparing myself for the worst (as would every other event organizer) – Bands playing to an empty venue. Mother Nature didn’t seem to be on our side…
As the day progressed, sound checks for the bands were running behind schedule as bands were finding it difficult to beat the traffic to get to the venue on time, but none the less it was important that every band sounded good on the night. Come 9PM, all my nerves had calmed as to my surprise; the venue began to fill up quite early. Rockstache concert goers braved the weather to come down and support the bands & the event. It was nearing showtime….
Bulletcells were a man down from their complete line-up as their lead guitarist had to fly out of the country on family emergency a couple of days before the concert. Meanwhile, the band managed to salvage their set and perform with the same enthusiasm as they normally would with full band. Their performance in spite of having one member short was tight & well delivered. I have nothing but respect for these guys and their commitment to music. – http://www.facebook.com/pages/bulletcells/112838345432435
Naser Mestarihi (originally from Qatar) & his band which comprises of some brilliant musicians from the Dubai scene managed to perform an amazing debut show at Rockstache. I was extremely impressed with the band’s performance & also with with Naser’s vocal and guitar skills. It didn’t take too long for the crowd to warm up to the band as they easily managed to share their energy with the audience. I only wish their set had been longer… I’m pretty sure I’m going to be even more impressed next time I see them –http://www.facebook.com/nasermestarihi
Point of View needs no introduction as they have been part of the local rock scene since 2005. With their latest debut release, they bolted into the scene with a sound that’s catchy,& heavy. On the night, they delivered no less with some killer guitar riffage. They managed to set the stage alight & are definitely one band you HAVE to catch live!! – http://www.facebook.com/pointofviewdubai
With close to about 400 people at the venue, I had a very good feeling the night was going to go insanely well! With the bands gracing The Music Room stage and putting on brilliant performances, I cannot stress enough how good it felt for my band, Nikotin to share the stage with these bands. I also look forward to sharing stage with a lot of other bands from the local scene soon.
I would like to thank Melanie for her valuable support, Ryan from Mainstage Events, Jasmine & all of the team at The Music Room, Tariq – the man behind the sound (He did an absolutely brilliant job making sure that the bands sounded their best on stage), The sponsors – Mizany, Dorri & Unilever for their contributions to making this event an absolute success. Last but definitely not the least I would like to thank the bandsBulletcells, Naser Mestarihi, Point of View & my band members in Nikotin (www.nikotinmusic.com) for putting their time and effort towards this event. A huge thank you to everyone who made it down to gig – Thank you for your support!!!
Keep the faith. Support local artists & you’d be surprised what amazing talent can come out of your own backyard.
